Magic Kingdom

Mickey Mouse and all the Disney characters come alive at the Magic Kingdom. Whether you are vacationing with kids or you are kids at heart, Magic Kingdom is where to start!

You can find rides, shows, parades and characters galore. This section will help you understand how to beat the crowds even during the busy season.

First let's talk about cheap Disney tickets!

Discounts on Disney World tickets and passes- Ok, there are some creative ways to save money on tickets but don't think you can get a free pass here!

If it seems to good to be true it probably is. First and foremost Disney tickets can be a lot of money so make sure you are always working with a reputable company.

DO NOT purchase unused tickets from vendors on the side of the streets on HWY 192 and International Drive. Beware of these counterfeit passes and scams. Disney tickets are nontransferable. That means they can be used only by the original purchase

Reliable discount tickets can be purchased through several organizations such as:

  • Active duty and retired military and their dependents qualify for discounts on Walt Disney World tickets. Discounted military tickets are available through your local base MWR office. the prices and the exact passes that are available will vary from base to base.
  • Discounted military tickets can also be purchased at the Navy Exchange in Orlando that has an ITT/MWR office. It is located near the airport on Tradeport & Earhart Drive. The MWR office phone number is (407) 855-0116 or (407) 851-4396
  • Active duty or retired military, reservists, National Guard and DoD personnel can order discount tickets by mail order by calling the Navy Region Southwest at (619) 767-6000 or the Air Force Central Ticket Program at (210) 652-2855.
  • Corporate Discounts: Check with your human resource department to see if your company passes along Walt Disney World savings.
  • Organized youth groups of 10 or more can receive significant savings off admission to any of the four Walt Disney World theme parks. For more information or to buy your tickets online, call (866) 441-1581.
  • Students, faculty and staff at University of Central Florida can receive discount tickets through the SGA ticket Center in the Student Union Center.
  • Florida Residents receive substantial discounts on a majority of passes. Remember that many of the Florida resident packages have black out days that they can not use the tickets on.
Depending upon your length of stay the best value is from four and five day Magic Your Way passes with the Park Hopper option Look at the Official Walt Disney World site for base ticket prices.

Saving Money on Food while in the Magic Kingdom

  • Bring your own snacks and treats to the Magic Kingdom. You can not bring a hard cooler nor do you want to lug it around. However, you can pack a backpack, soft cooler or bag with chips, cookies, crackers, etc.this makes for good inexpensive snacks or even a light meal!
  • Bring your own water bottle! You can fill it up through out the numerous water fountains.

  • Main Street Bake Shop in the Magic Kingdom baked goods mostly priced in the $2-$3 range.
  • Casey's Corner (Main Street) has a large hot dog with slaw or fries for under six dollars.
  • Pinocchio's Village Haus in Fantasyland
  • Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe in Tomorrowland
  • Columbia Harbour House in Liberty Square
  • The Enchanted Grove in Fantasyland
  • You can purchase fresh fruit throughout the park for under five dollars for a sizeable amount.
  • How To Maximize Your Time at the Magic Kingdom

  • Many Disney guides will recommend that you come early and stay late. As many times as I have been to the Magic Kingdom I am certain everyone has read these guides!Everyone comes early! I find that if I plan on coming after lunch around 1:00-1:30p.m. then many people have left the park by then. They are either hopping to another parkor they are going back to the hotel for nap time.

Regardless, the park seems to quiet down. This is a great time to get to the rides that are the longest such asSpace Mountain, Thunder Mountain and Mickey's PhilharMagic.

  • Now remember that in the summer months about 3:00 p.m. it rains every day. This is a good time to have an earlydinner or take in some of the cute shops on Main Street. The showers only last about thirty minutes to an hour but, not a good time to be waiting in a long line outside.
  • Avoid long lines with FASTPASS. When getting to the park first decide what rides you want to ride and collect fast passes for these rides first. The FASTPASS is likegetting a reservation for the ride. Some of the rides that are recommended for FASTPASS for the Magic Kingdom are: Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, The Haunted Mansion and Big thunder Mountain Railroad
  • Baby or Child Swap: If you have a child that can not ride because of height restriction and you have two adults present then When you enter the queue area, tell the Cast Member you'd like to do Child Swap. This allows the first adult to ride while the second adult stays with the child. Then the second adult can ride -- without waiting in line again -- while the first adult stays with the child. If you are using FASTPASS, the system works the same way, except that you get in the FASTPASS line
  • At the queue entrance ask if the attraction offers a Single Rider line (if you don't mind being separated from our party). The Cast Members loading ride vehicles draw from the Single Rider line to fill in empty seats, so this line often moves much faster than the regular line.
  • Busiest Days of the week are: Monday, Saturday & Sunday
  • Best times to visit are: End of April, First of October to Early November, First week in December, Mid January through early February
  • My favorite time to go is the first week in December. The park is quiet, the weather is beautiful and all the Christmas decorations are up and there are events such as Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.
  • The busiest time and NOT my favorite is Christmas week through to New Years
